The Family Cruise in the Maldives by Submaldives will have its fourteenth edition in 2025. It is a very special trip for the Submaldives team because seeing the group of children enjoying the activities we have specially prepared for them is as gratifying as the pleasure of diving in the waters of the Maldives.
As you will see, everything is prepared so that you can enjoy a true family vacation!
The Submaldives Family Cruise is a very special product. Without losing sight that it is a diving cruise for adults, we have worked year after year to design an activity schedule that children can enjoy while their parents dive, with the goal that it also becomes a very special vacation for them.
Children will have unforgettable experiences both onboard and in the sea or on deserted islands. For them, living on a boat is usually very special, but snorkeling with manta rays, nurse sharks, or even a whale shark… is something they will remember for their whole lives.
Yes, because every year we make a very special route sailing among the paradisiacal atolls of the Maldives. This route allows us to encounter night mantas, nurse sharks, and whale sharks, without a doubt spectacular for both young and old. Additionally, we will find countless deserted islands to spend some time on the beach and snorkel in some of the most beautiful reefs of the country.
With this itinerary, our goal is to make both divers and children, and even non-diving adults, happy. The calm life onboard, the contact with the sea, its reefs and inhabitants, the deserted islands, and even the local villages all come together to create an unforgettable trip!
The team
In addition to the boat crew and the diving guide team led by Judith de la Rosa, we have on board a specific team to guarantee the safety and fun of the children, consisting of a pediatrician fully dedicated to their care, two professional monitors who will plan a complete schedule of activities both inside and outside the boat, and a diving instructor so that children can get started in this exciting world.
This way, while the parents are diving, the children or people who do not dive will be having a great time with activities on board such as games, crafts, or dress-up, or spending the day on deserted islands enjoying the beach, snorkeling, or an exciting treasure hunt.
We will even have on board a diving instructor dedicated to the children. Thanks to the instructor, children who are old enough will be able to try the sensations of diving through an introductory dive and even take the open water diver course.

Tips
Recommendations
You know Murphy’s Law says that when you prepare for something, it never happens. That’s why our pediatrician would like to suggest you bring some products. Hopefully, none will be needed:
Paracetamol solution (Apiretal, Efferalgan, Dolocatil, generic Paracetamol): useful in case of fever and/or headache and/or any kind of pain including abdominal pain.
Ibuprofen solution at 2% or 4% (Dalsy, Junifen, generic Ibuprofen): useful in case of fever and/or headache and/or any type of pain except some kinds of abdominal pain.
Biodramina solution for children under 6 years old and chewing gum for those over 6 years old.
Of course: sunscreen (preferably physical filter with SPF > 50), after-sun cream, mosquito repellent (there are no mosquitoes on the boat, but there are when we disembark on islands), and some roll-on for mild insect bites.
Obviously, apart from what’s listed here, there is more material and medication on the boat for less likely problems.
Note: children over 30 kilos who can take pills may bring tablets instead of solutions.
If a child has any specific health problem, it will be specially handled with the pediatrician as the cruise dates approach.
Water bottle (so you don’t have to ask for water all the time and airplane air is very dry)
A tablet with movies and games is very useful to entertain them
Some easy-to-eat food (airplane food is not very good and it’s many hours)
Jersey or jacket and socks (it gets quite cold after many hours on the plane)
Travel pillow, because they will probably sleep a lot
Hat or cap and sunglasses
Lycra shirt, easy to find at Decathlon for example, for the boat or beach
Mask, snorkel, and fins; Decathlon has complete kits for kids
Snorkel vest: many kids get tired snorkeling
Life jackets: you can ask us about child life jackets availability, but we think it’s better if each child brings their own to ensure it fits well
Regarding life jackets: since it is essential, once onboard, we will deduct up to 30€ from your final bill if you leave it on the boat

On this cruise, children’s activities and family togetherness during diving are prioritized.
What does this mean?
That if to get to an island with a nice beach and reef for an afternoon of sun and snorkeling you have to skip a dive, then the dive is skipped.
Usually, the average of 3 dives a day is not reached, but we’re not very far from it, and on this 9-day cruise, we aim for at least 20 dives depending on conditions.
Included in the cruise price is:
12L aluminum tank (15L steel available on request with additional rental cost)
Weights and belt
Nitrox (when available on the boat)
Recommended additional equipment:
Lightweight set including mask, fins, and snorkel
Complete regulator with second stages and pressure gauge
Buoyancy vest
Wetsuit
Dive light, mandatory for night dives
IMPORTANT: It is mandatory to have a dive computer and safety buoy and to know how to use them

There’s no exact moment, you could book the day before departure, but you’d probably find no availability. To give you an idea, last year spots ran out by early February. Because it’s very popular, if you’re seriously interested, I recommend booking as soon as possible.
